Get ready, Riverdale fans! The new season finally begins this week on The CW.

As noted by Decider, some fans are getting a little concerned that season 5 might also be Riverdale‘s last. And I guess it could be. After all, no matter how popular a series might become or what season we’re up to, you never know when a network might pull the plug, especially with the ongoing pandemic still affecting production.

Not to mention, Riverdale has had a pretty good run and the channel could simply decide to move on. But as Decider notes, The CW doesn’t typically cancel its shows as frequently as other networks and services such as Netflix do, and Riverdale still has room to grow. With that said, there’s probably nothing to be worried about.

Before we get to when and if season 6 is happening, let’s go over the premise for those who are new to The CW series.

What is Riverdale about?

Season 1 of the show follows a group of high school students in the small town of Riverdale. The darker side of their seemingly perfect town begins coming to light after the blindsiding murder of a classmate.

KJ Apa stars as Archie Andrews, a popular football player, a musician in the making, and the unofficial leader of the pack. Lili Reinhart plays Betty Cooper, a former cheerleader, all-around sweetheart, and longtime not-so-secret-admirer of Archie. Camila Mendes takes on the role of a vivacious new girl from New York and on-again, off-again girlfriend of Archie, Veronica Lodge. Jughead Jones, played by Cole Sprouse, is an outcast who strikes up a romance with Betty.

If these character names sound incredibly familiar, they should. Riverdale is inspired by the iconic Archie Comics from the 1940s. However, this reimagined series based on the all-American comic is definitely meant for the modern millennial viewer.

Will there be a Riverdale season 6?

As of right now, season 6 hasn’t been confirmed yet, but there’s still plenty of time for that. Season 5 begins on January 20 and chances are, the upcoming storyline will give fans a few sought-after clues about just how far this storyline can and will go. With a time-jump ahead, the possibilities might be endless! And as soon as we get confirmation, we’ll let you know!
