Erased

This is another mature anime that can only be watched one way: all at once. Erased, based on the manga written by Kei Sanbe and directed by Tomohiko Itō, is so gripping in each episode that, even if it was more than twelve episodes, it would still be an anime you’d want to binge all in one weekend.

Satoru Fujinuma, is a twenty-nine-year-old aspiring manga artist who can’t seem to find a way to dig deep into his creative psyche and find it difficult to land a job. But Satoru also has a secret ability, which he refers to as “revival,” where he gets sent back in time a few minutes or seconds, without warning, to stop a tragedy from occurring.

While Satoru’s mom is in town, he experiences another revival episode while out grocery shopping and stops a potential kidnapping. Satoru’s mom, a former journalist, is reminded of the serial killer’s kidnappings from when Satoru was little and begins digging into the case, convinced that the real killer was never caught.

During his mother’s unofficial investigation, Satoru experiences a tragedy of his own that launches him into another revival which, this time, sends him all the way back to his elementary school days, before the serial killer kidnapped and murdered the kids from Satoru’s neighborhood.

Satoru sees this revival as an opportunity to change the fate of his fellow classmates and put a permanent stop to the killings. This thriller, while incredibly emotional, is a near-perfectly written script and definitely a star on our list of Netflix anime you can binge in a weekend.
