Shortly before the second episode of Superman and Lois aired, The CW announced it had just renewed the series for a second season. That certainly happened faster than a speeding bullet.

In this episode titled “Heritage,” we see the Kent family move and immediately try to adjust to life in Smallville. Challenges are evident from the start.

As in the pilot, there were several great scenes in this episode. The plot also thickens with Captain Luthor. Lois’s own storyline with Morgan Edge and Kyle Cushing is developing as well.

Jordan meets his biological grandfather Jor-El

Clark takes son Jordan to the Fortress of Solitude where he explains the origin of his name. Jordan is named after Jor-El and brother Jonathan is named, of course, after Jonathan Kent. They are also there to gain insight into Jordan’s new-found powers. Jor-El, at first nearly crowns Jordan as leader of the next generation but then later sort of rains on the boy’s parade.

Lois vs. Morgan Edge

Lois attends and confronts her boss Morgan Edge at a town council meeting which is seemingly chaired by Kyle Cushing who let it be known early on that he is Team Morgan Edge. He and Lois will not be besties. She boldly writes an article exposing Edge, in hopes of preventing him from destroying Smallville.

Naturally, he has the story changed and fluffed up. Lois visits the Daily Planet and hands him “the best piece she’s ever written for the newspaper.” The sheet of paper contains two words: I Quit. Look out Smallville Gazette.

Superman vs. Captain Luthor

After overhearing General Sam Lane say where Captain Luthor is located, Clark jets off, tracks him down, and engages in a little confronting of his own. The two fight amongst the trees, through the trees and in the air, where Superman drops Luthor to the ground like a stone.

Brotherly love

Witnessing his brother flying off yonder with their dad has Jonathan in his feels. To top it all off, his own (new school) football team is out to get because of the incident at the bonfire.

When Jordan learns team members sabotaged Jonathan’s playbook, he looks as if he’s ready to go all heat vision again. And when he shares with Jonathan what grandpa Jor-El said, Jonathan defends his twin, reminding him of his heroic act in the barn.

The big reveal on Superman and Lois

There appears to be an alternative earth, fallout from Crisis happening as Luthor approaches General Lane. He seeks his help, regaling a tale of how the two of them once fought in the trenches alongside each other as an evil Kal-El, dressed in black, shot death rays upon them. Uh-oh.
