Cat Grant is back on Supergirl! Just maybe not the way you remember her. The CW drama took us back in time to when a younger Kara and Alex were still living in Midvale and their paths crossed with a feisty young Cat Grant.

Considering we are seeing a younger version of the character, Cat Grant is now played by Eliza Helm and she actually goes by CJ Grant. Though she’s still as tough and ambitious as ever.

Cat Grant quickly became a fan favorite in the first season of Supergirl and she has been missed ever since. So what brings her to Midvale?

Cat Grant wants a super scoop on Supergirl

Cat, or CJ as she calls herself, is a reporter working in Metropolis and trying to get out from the shadow of Lois Lane. She’s after a major scoop and she thinks Midvale may have just what she’s looking for.

Thanks to an article about Midvale being the luckiest town, due to the secret heroics of Kara and her boyfriend Kenny, Cat has determined that there is more to that town than meets the eye. And she’s not wrong.

As Cat breezes into Midvale demanding coffee I can’t help but admire how well Eliza Helm was able to get Cat’s mannerisms and personality. Despite being played by a different actress you knew who the character was immediately and it’s really good to have her back.

Unfortunately, Kara and Alex may not feel the same way, as they run into Cat while Alex is pretending to be her mother and they have to dodge Cat’s line of questioning. Alex insists that there is nothing special about Midvale but Cat isn’t convinced. After all, she didn’t become a media mogul because she had bad instincts.

Cat just happens to be in the right place at the right time later on as she witnesses Kara and Nia stopping a driver-less truck that was about to hit a school bus. She manages to take some pictures but she doesn’t quite realize what she’s caught.

As Cat examines the pictures later she realizes that she didn’t catch the blue light she saw, but instead she caught what appears to be the shadow of a spaceship. A ship that has the intention of capturing Nia and Kara but ends up capturing Nia and Brainy.

So it seems Kara’s secret may be safe from Cat Grant for the moment, but Cat is an ambitious journalist with great instincts and she won’t be giving up on this story any time soon. We know she will appear in the next episode of Supergirl and we know that at some point in the future she has figured out Kara’s secret as revealed by the end of Season 2. So it’s only a matter of time.
