Is [Spoiler] dead on The Handmaid’s Tale Season 4, Episode 5?

June is not having much luck in keeping her friends alive on The Handmaid’s Tale Season 4. Is [Spoiler] the latest one killed trying to escape?

Caution: There are spoilers from The Handmaid’s Tale Season 4, Episode 5 in this post.

June and Janine had found a new resistance. Initially, it looked rocky, but they were given a chance to remain with the group if they wanted. That’s not what June wanted, though. She still needs to find Hannah, and she needs to do what she can to get out of Gilead.

After all, if she’s caught, that’s it. She will be dead this time.

So, June left for the border. At first, Janine didn’t want to come, but then she decided that there was no way she could leave June. Handmaids walk in pairs.

Was that the wrong decision, though? At the very end of the episode, the Gilead airstrike happened. Chicago is left in even more rubble than it already was. June is injured, but she’s alive. We don’t get to see Janine, though. June called out for her, but Janine didn’t answer.

June’s focus on Janine was pulled away when Moira showed up. Yes, there is a chance that June will get out of Gilead now, but what about Janine? Is Janine dead on The Handmaid’s Tale Season 4?

There’s no body on The Handmaid’s Tale Season 4, Episode 5

This is the world of TV. When there isn’t a body, you don’t believe that a character is dead. It really is as simple as that.

Right now, I don’t believe that Janine is dead. She could show up in the next episode injured. At the same time, she could end up captured by Gilead.

The Commanders chose to perform the airstrike and then offer aid. They have this chance to get this resistance in Chicago. If Janine is left behind in Chicago and is injured, it would mean she’d need to turn to Gilead for aid. She’ll be recaptured, and she could end up being tortured because she has an idea as to where June was heading.

It’s not like Gilead can do too much when it comes to June if she does make it to Canada, but what if she doesn’t? Janine would be perfect. She says that she wouldn’t give her fellow Handmaids up, but she doesn’t know what she’d do if she was put in a similar position to June. This could be a chance to see just how far Janine can be pushed.

That’s assuming she’s still alive. I wouldn’t write her off just yet on The Handmaid’s Tale. The question is whether June is going to leave her behind.

I think Janine’s alive. She has to be. The show has already killed off too many of the Handmaids to then kill Janine off so quickly afterward.
