The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s favorite adoptive brother is getting his own show. Loki Season 1 will arrive on Disney Plus in June.

Loki is Thor’s adoptive brother who serves as the primary villain of Thor and The Avengers. As the MCU expanded, Loki transformed from a supervillain into an antihero. Loki is beloved by many Marvel fans and credit Tom Hiddleston’s charismatic performance as the reason behind their love for the character.

Loki marks the third Marvel series to premiere on Disney Plus. Wandavision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier premiered earlier this year on the streaming service.

Here’s everything we know about Loki Season 1.

Loki Season 1 release date

Loki Season 1 is right around the corner. Loki is scheduled to premiere on June 9, 2021. The show was originally scheduled for Friday, June 11, but later moved up two days. Unlike previous Marvel shows, Loki will release weekly episodes on Wednesdays as opposed to Fridays. Season 1 will consist of six episodes.

Loki Season 1 cast

Hiddleston returns to the MCU in the titular role. The rest of the cast includes:

  • Owen Wilson as Mobius M. Mobius
  • Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Ravonna Renslayer
  • Wunmi Mosaku as Hunter B-15

Sasha Lane, Sophia Di Martino, Richard E. Grant, Eugene Cordero, Jack Veal, Erika Coleman, and Cailey Fleming round out the cast in undisclosed roles.

Loki Season 1 trailer

Disney Plus has released multiple trailers and commercial spots for Loki over the last few months. From the seen footage, Loki promises to be an action-packed crime adventure.

Loki Season 1 synopsis

Loki Season 1 will be based on the events of Avengers: Endgame. Many fans might be asking how Loki is still alive despite being killed by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. In Endgame, the Avengers traveled back in time to specific events in history to retrieve the Infinity Stones. One of those moments in time took place in 2012 during The Avengers.

After Iron Man’s botched attempt at the Tesseract after the Battle of New York in Endgame, it ends up in Loki’s hands. Loki steals it and vanishes so the series should pick up from that very moment. This is an alternate version of Loki so that explains how the character can exist in the MCU despite his death onscreen.

In the trailer, the alternate Loki is brought before the Time Variance Authority (TVA). Loki is now a time variant so the TVA gives him a mission. He must help fix the new timeline created when he touched the Tesseract or face deletion.
