The Handmaid’s Tale Season 4, Episode 6 pushed June’s story forward considerably, but she’s terrified of one thing: Luke’s anger.

Caution: There are major spoilers for The Handmaid’s Tale Season 4, Episode 6 in this post.

After the airstrike in Chicago, we saw Moira and June reunite. It’s been a long time coming, but for a while, it looked like June wouldn’t get out of Gilead. She didn’t want to leave Janine, and then she didn’t want to leave Hannah behind.

Then there was the problem of the air workers not being allowed to bring refugees back. Moira ignored that, and she ended up hiding June on the boat for a while. That was until she found out there would be a check to make sure only those approved were on the boat to go back to Canada.

Fortunately, humanity won out and June was able to get into Canada. Yes, she is finally free from Gilead on The Handmaid’s Tale. It had to happen eventually, right? She doesn’t have Hannah, though, and now she’s scared.

What if Luke blames her or is angry at her for leaving Hannah behind in Gilead. Would Luke be angry at all?

Luke knows what it was like to escape Gilead on The Handmaid’s Tale

I don’t think we’ll see anger from him. As much as he wants his daughter free, he knows what it is like to escape Gilead. He got out before everything was completely set up, but he’s met others who were there for years, stuck in a regime that is dangerously patriarchal.

Right now, he’ll be relieved that at least June got out. She’s finally back with him, especially after seeing some of what she was forced to go through and that fear that she would be executed after being caught recently.

The anger may eventually come. June managed to get her baby with Nick out, but not her daughter with Luke. Depending on how June acts around him once she is free to live in Canada—there is going to be anger and PTSD there!—he may start to resent the fact that she didn’t try a little harder to get Hannah out.

I think that will come if he finds out Hannah is in danger. The question is whether anyone will tell him that intel says Hannah is in danger.

If The Handmaid’s Tale follows the world that Margaret Atwood set up, Hannah will be safe. We get her story in The Testaments. However, that doesn’t mean Gilead won’t threaten Hannah’s safety in an attempt to get June to return to Gilead to eventually execute her. If that happens, we could see Luke angry that June didn’t get their daughter out.
