NCIS Season 18, Episode 15 introduced us to REACT Agent Jessica Knight, played by actress Katrina Law. Having been announced as a possible new regular for Season 19, we were eagerly anticipating her arrival to see what she brought to the table. In this episode, we saw her trying to talk down a man holding a woman hostage. Along with her team, all appears to work until a bomb goes off.

Despite being injured and the only survivor, Jessica is determined to help the team solve the case. Her no-nonsense attitude and strong will are a fun match-up with the team’s laid-back behavior as they work the case.

Having determined the bomb went off via a cell phone app, they use the REACT team’s new high-tech gear to figure out where the signal came from. But when they discover someone was after the REACT team and not the suspect they were after, the team must figure out who would want the team dead.

As it turns out, one of the deceased men, Agent Edward Madden, recently developed terminal lung disease. He had been gathering evidence that the new tactical gear was the reason for his illness. This new twist to the investigation helps them find out who actually planted the bomb and who was the real target.

In addition, NCIS Season 18, Episode 15 also finally got into why Gibbs has been looking into an old case. Marcie Warren, the reporter, had asked him to look into the murder of her friend, Hannah. However, Gibbs feels certain the case is closed despite her objections.

But regardless, he still gives it another look and obtains photos of the crime scene, including Hannah bound with red tape. Even though it is difficult for her to see, it causes Marcie to remember a previous case she wrote about. There are at least a few other similar murders that involved red tape and the victims being beaten with a hammer.

So it looks like Gibbs is onto a possible serial killer case. But is it wise for him to look into this when he is suspended? The episode also had a nice scene with Bishop and Gibbs, as she asked him if his actions were worth having lost his team. It’s definitely something to think about, and it’s clear that the team still sees him as their boss even if he’s not there.

For being a show that has been on so long, it’s neat to see how they introduce new characters who will likely be part of the team in some capacity. Already, there did seem to be some chemistry with Torres, Bishop, and McGee. Plus, giving her scenes with Jimmy and Kasie to show they know her well also establishes a connection that will go a long way in getting her settled with them.
