The CW has acquired many Canadian TV shows over the years, with Trickster being one of the latest. What do we know about Trickster Season 2?

When it comes to summer programming, The CW turns to acquisitions for some of its line-up. Acquiring shows is cheaper than creating its own content, so it makes sense to opt for this during the slower months of the year.

The 2020-2021 schedule has been different. The acquisitions have helped to offer fresh content while waiting for the usual CW shows to film. Trickster was one of those shows, a supernatural series with an Indigenous cast focused on Indigenous lore. It’s based on the books by Eden Robinson, which certainly go more into the lore.

While the Canadian network CBC initially renewed Trickster, it decided to cancel the show after some controversy. But what about The CW. Would the show take it on itself?

Trickster Season 2 premiere date

The CW hasn’t picked up the Canadian supernatural drama just yet. That’s not likely to happen, either. Trickster wasn’t canceled due to poor ratings, but due to the controversy around the show’s creator Michelle Latimer. Despite her stepping down for Season 2, the pain was still there and CBC opted to “unrenew” the series.

While the show performed relatively well on The CW for an acquisition, it’s not going to come back.

If by some miracle The CW opts to save the series, we could see it become a summer or midseason series.

Trickster Season 2 cast

We would need Joel Oulette to return as Jared if the show is picked up. The last we saw of him, he was heading west to Vancouver to scatter Wade’s ashes after Maggie killed him.

We’d also need to see Crystle Lightning return as Maggie. While the show would end up being in two provinces, the show wasn’t just about Jared. We got to see some development for Crystle throughout the first season, but she was left alone at the very end of the season. We need to see what that means.

Trickster Season 2 trailer

Since the second season isn’t happening, there isn’t a trailer. If the show is saved by The CW, the trailer will come about a month or two before the premiere date. We’ll be sure to bring that if it happens.

Trickster Season 2 synopsis

It’s hard to say what the second season would be about. The first season included storylines from all three books. The finale ended with Jared leaving his mom behind and taking his father’s ashes to Vancouver.

The season would likely follow Jared understanding more about his lineage as a supernatural being, while also dealing with the trauma of everything he witnessed. After all, that was a lot for a teenager to go through!
