LEGO Masters continues to WOW us with brilliant challenges and breathtaking LEGO creations. I recently had the pleasure of chatting with the show’s judges, Amy Corbett and Jamie Berard, about all things LEGO Masters.

Outside of the LEGO Masters set, Corbett is a Senior Design Manager at The LEGO Company. She drives the development of brand-new product lines. Jamie Berard is a Senior Design Manager and Creative Lead at The LEGO Company, where he works on the LEGO Architecture and LEGO Ideas lines, as well as a variety of products for LEGO fans of all ages.

Needless to say, Corbett and Berard were a joy to chat with! One of my favorite Zoom calls, and they got me all excited for challenges to come! It’s always lovely to learn that someone on TV truly is passionate about their job and loves what they do.

Read on for the highlight points of the interview, where you’ll learn the judge’s favorite challenges, if they have any LEGO sets displayed around their home, how they really feel about the show’s host, Will Arnett, and more!

LEGO Masters season 2 interview with Amy Corbett and Jamie Berard

Hidden Remote: Let me just tell you guys, I’ve done many interviews before, but when I told my 7-year-old about this one, I’ve never seen him this excited. He couldn’t believe it! It’s by far the happiest he’s been for me about an interview. He even helped me out with some questions if you don’t mind me asking?

Amy Corbett: That is so cute! Yes, of course!

Jamie Berard: We’d be happy to!

HR: What is your favorite product line from LEGOS and do you have any LEGO sets displayed at home?

Berard: I love Star Wars, it’s one of my favorites. I love planes and jets, I have them all around the house. I feel like my home IS a display! I leave the office and come home to what looks like…my office [laughs]. But I love it.

Corbett: I’d have to say the Friends LEGO sets, I loved putting those together. And I really love the new LEGO Dots [Corbett shows me her very cool bracelet], which are not just for kids! They’re super fun!

HR: Ooh, that is cute! I don’t think I knew about LEGO Dots before, I’ll have to check them out!

Corbett: Yes, do!

HR: Finally, my son is curious about what happens to the LEGO creations the teams make after the challenges.

Corbett: Some of them we do keep and display, but most of them, after taking so, so many pictures — the team is amazing with capturing every detail — we do have them carefully taken apart, which is amazing because we get to use them all over again.

HR: How fun is it working with Will Arnett? We love watching him here at home! He’s so enthusiastic and we love his dad jokes.

Corbett: It’s actually even more fun than it looks! If you can believe that. Will is just like you see him on camera, off camera and behind the scenes! He’s always making us laugh.

Berard: It’s even better this season, because he already knows us, we got to know each other more after working the first season. So now that he knows us better he’s able to come up with more jokes. It’s great.

HR: I love that! The three of you make a fantastic team, honestly. I love the feedback you guys offer the teams. You truly seem to care. How much time do you really spend with them? Do you have any say in the challenges?

Corbett: So much more than you get to see! Our job is to judge, but I’d say, more than that, our job is to coach. We’re there to help and guide them [the teams].

Berard: Yes, we are by their side more than it is shown. And we do help with the challenges! We listen to ideas from a team we have, come up with some ourselves and we love seeing it all come together. It’s very exciting.

HR: What fun challenges can we expect? We’ve already seen some great ones. I can’t wait to see what the final challenges are. Do you have a favorite?

Corbett: I loved the Hat one! But I think my favorite is the one from episode 5, the floating LEGO Brick.

Berard: I hate to tease you here, but my favorite challenge is in a later episode you’ll just have to see — it’s…I love it. It’s truly something else. So sorry for the tease!

HR: Oooh, no now I’m even more excited! I can’t wait! Now, how did LEGO Masters deal with the pandemic? We don’t see any of that.

Corbett: We don’t mention it on camera, which we loved! We were in our little bubble, able to forget all about it for a while. You don’t get to see it, but behind the cameras everyone is wearing double masks, plastic coverings…

Berard: It’s funny because we joke about how we didn’t really know how anyone looked like until the masks were off!

Corbett: It’s true! But we were very safe, we all care and love the show and didn’t want to jeopardize it. We tested every three days and stayed safe to keep the cameras rolling.

HR: I love that it’s not mentioned. I don’t think any show wants a season remembered as “the pandemic season,” I think families want to escape all that and just watch a fun show.

Corbett: Exactly! And it turned out great!
