Friends monkey handler upset about David Schwimmer’s ‘childish’ Marcel comments
By Sandy C.
We all know Marcel the monkey, we all love Marcel! Well, everyone except David Schwimmer! During Friends: The Reunion, fans learned that Schwimmer, who played Ross Geller, did not get along with all of his costars. As it turns out, the actor found it difficult to work with the smallest Friends star of all, Marcel.
In the HBO Max special, David Schwimmer reminded fans how complicated it was to film scenes that involved Marcel. We say “reminded” because this isn’t the first time Schwimmer has complained about the cutest TV monkey.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Schwimmer told the source “I hate that monkey…the trainers won’t let me bond with it. They’re really, really possessive.”
Schwimmer continues:
"“It’s like, ‘land on your marks, do your job, don’t touch or bond with the monkey.’ It’s a bummer.”"
Honestly, we can understand that.
Working with animals is never easy, but I imagine it tremendously helps if you have a bond with the animal. If they know you and like you, everything should go more smoothly. Right? Well, not according to Mike Morris, Marcel’s trainer.
Needless to say, we’re betting Schwimmer was happy Marcel eventually left the show. But should he have brought up Marcel again in the reunion special? Morris sure doesn’t believe so!
Marcel’s trainer calls Friends star David Schwimmer ‘childish’
According to EW, Morris says Schwimmer’s comments are “childish” and believes that the actor must’ve been jealous of the attention Marcel received. I can see why Morris is upset, but I think Schwimmer was jealous.
Morris also tells the source:
"“I find it despicable for him to still be speaking ill of her [Marcel]. Him still talking ill about the monkey all these years later seems pretty childish to me… It was one season over 25 years ago, it’s time to let it go.”"
What do you think about this ongoing feud? In Schwimmer’s defense, he was asked about his experience. It’s not like the actor brought up Marcel out of the blue.
