Sonic’s journey to the big screen was a bumpy one! Fortunately, the wait was worth it as Sonic the Hedgehog became a blockbuster hit with critics and audiences. When is the new Sonic movie coming out? Here’s what we know!
Do you all remember when the first promotional images for Sonic the Hedgehog were released? Of course you do! No one will ever forget. Twitter and all of social media blew up — and not in a good way!
The first images were so bad (oh so terrible) that there is still speculation about how this was done on purpose to promote the movie. I can see why some people would think this, but honestly, I really do believe the first posters were truly that awful! What are you thoughts?
Whether intended to promote the film or not, Sonic the Hedgehog was a hit, gathering over $319.7 million worldwide. Now, fans can’t wait for the sequel, which teases to introduce new characters in the universe.

New Sonic movie release date
The super short teaser (which you can check out above) reveals that the movie will be released in April 8, 2022. At this time, there are no streaming plans known for the movie. It may be a movie theater exclusive.
We wish the movie could premiere sooner than later! But, unfortunately, we’ll have to wait until next year. On the bright side, we won’t have to wait too far into 2022.
The teaser also shows the official name of the movie, titled simply Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and we can see a very famous “tail” featured in the title. Knuckles has also been revealed to appear in the movie. Needless to say, it’s going to be great!

Set to star in the movie are Ben Schwartz, James Marsden, Jim Carrey, Shemar Moore, Tika Sumpter, and others.
