Law & Order: SVU Season 23 is coming to NBC this fall. What’s the premiere date, and what should we expect for the Special Victims Unit? Let’s take a look.

In a TV landscape where viewers have almost given up on getting attached to pretty much anything, SVU is that one series that utterly defies the trend of killing our shows way too soon. As the procedural heads in to its 23rd season, we can’t help but wonder what’s coming next for Captain Benson and the rest of her squad.

The upcoming run of episodes is particularly exciting because it will contain a major landmark: Episode 500 is expected to air by the end of 2021.

So, what do we know so far about Law & Order: SVU Season 23? Let’s take a look, and be sure to bookmark this post and check back for updates!

Law & Order: SVU Season 23 premiere date

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 23 premieres on Thursday, September 23 at 8:00/7:00c That’s an hour earlier than its usual time because we’re starting the new season off with a two-hour episode.

That could mean anything from a very Big (with a capital B) case, to some huge personal developments, to both. Since the Season 22 finale saw Rollins and Carisi finally taking the leap at Fin’s not-wedding, it would certainly be reasonable for Rollisi shippers to want to see the aftermath of that.

…which, of course, brings us to the Bensler of it all. While, again, we can’t confirm anything, this tweet from Executive Producer Julie Martin in response to the EO frustration is certainly promising.

Law & Order: SVU Season 23 cast

You never know who’s going to show up on this show as a victim, a suspect, a lawyer, a judge, or any number of other roles. But we do know we can expect the core group to return for more episodes.

  • Mariska Hargitay as Captain Olivia Benson (There is no SVU without Hargitay. Jot that down.)
  • Ice-T as Sergeant Odafin Tutola
  • Kelli Giddish as Detective Amanda Rollins
  • Peter Scanavino as ADA Dominick “Sonny” Carisi
  • Jamie Gray Hyder as Detective Katriona “Kat” Tamin
  • Demore Barnes as Deputy Chief Christian Garland
  • Ryan Buggle as Noah Benson (Stabler, if Hargitay and the prayer candles she brought to a Variety panel earlier this year have any say in the matter…Search the name on Twitter. You’ll see.)

With Episode 500 coming, could we hope to see some of our old friends, though? While he’s not technically a cast member for this series, we know we’ll get more of Christopher Meloni as Detective Stabler. (Here’s hoping Liv gets “more” of Stabler than she’s ever had while we’re at it.)

But what about the rest of our old friends? Stay tuned…

Law & Order: SVU Season 23 trailer

As of our original post date, it’s way too early for any new trailers specifically made for Season 23.

However.

The official Law & Order account released what we’ve dubbed EO: The Movie (or Bensler: The Movie, if you prefer) in late June of 2021. Take from that what you will.

As soon as new content is available, we’ll share it. Until then, join us in speculating (and spiraling).

Next. Friends Reunion: 5 unexpectedly emotional moments. dark

Let’s just hope it hasn’t all been an especially heinous level of baiting. But let’s be real: Even if that’s the case, we’ll all tune in. At this point, Hargitay & Friends own us anyway.

Law & Order: SVU will air Thursday nights at 9/8c on NBC.
