M. Night Shyamalan is back with Old, a supernatural horror inspired by the graphic novel, Sandcastle. What is the rating for the Old movie? Is it suitable for young audiences? Here’s what we know.

Old is in theaters on Friday, July 23, and fans of the horror genre and Shyamalan couldn’t be more excited! But, as any Shyamalan fan (or not) is aware, his movies can be hit and miss for most.

The trailer for the Old movie definitely has all of us excited, but we are proceeding with caution. It doesn’t help that the movie will only be available in theaters. We have all gotten used to enjoying movies at home and have become picky about which movies we go out to see in movie theaters.

Still, as a horror and mystery fan (as well as fan of Shyamalan), I’m excited to see this movie on the big screen.

What is the Old movie about?

Old follows a family on a tropical vacation who soon discover that they are aging rapidly. What is causing this and can the family get out in time?

The movie’s cast includes Gael Garcia Bernal, Vicky Krieps, Rufus Sewell, Ken Leung, and others.

Now, every kiddo is different. Some are even into horror at a young age. But does Old feature images or sequences too violent or strong for them to handle? While that depends on each parent, as only you know your kid best, here’s what rating the studio has given Old.

According to the studio, the movie is rated PG-13 for disturbing images, brief strong language, partial nudity, strong violence, and suggestive content.

“Partial nudity” and “suggestive content” are usually what parents look for, along with violence. But instead of an R rating, the movie has a PG-13 rating, so it must not be as “bad” as it seems.

By the looks of it, the average kid over the age of 13 may be able to handle the movie. Then again, you know your kid best! If you have a young teen that scares easy or is simply not used to the genre, I wouldn’t watch the movie with them. You may want to wait until more reviews are out to make your decision.

dark. Next. Where can you stream all seasons of American Horror Story? Are they on Netflix or Hulu?

Will you be watching the movie in theaters this weekend with a friend or the family?
