Is Motherland: Fort Salem season 3 happening? Will there be a new season?

UPDATE, Aug. 23: According to TV Line, Motherland: Fort Salem has been renewed for a third and final season. 

Alright, switches, we’re halfway through Motherland: Fort Salem season 2 which means we have our sights set on a third season for the show. It’s never too early to start speculating especially when Motherland: Fort Salem season 3 is already being teased.

On Friday, July 23, the Motherland: Fort Salem Comic-Con panel went live and, though information about season 2 was kept close to the vest, there did seem to be a slip about a possible third season.

The moment occurred when showrunner Eliot Laurence began teasing star Jessica Sutton about her civilian score on newly launched motherlandwitchtest.com. He said:

"This is going to affect next year, Jess. This is going to affect a lot. You’re going to move to Minneapolis and open a bookstore next year."

Next year, of course, meaning next season. Laurence, however, isn’t the only one who’s given hints about a possible season 3. So has Taylor Hickson.

In an interview with Distractify, the actress stated that the twists and turns of season 2 would lead to a cliffhanger in the finale that changes everything.

"You got angst left and right and danger and life and death. [The season 2 finale] sets it up for an infinite amount of possibilities for Season 3 on where they could take it. There is so much that transpired between now and the end. It’ll feel like a different show by the end of it. I think that’s really interesting to toy with in Season 3 if you’ll allow us."

So, if Freeform does greenlight a third season for Motherland: Fort Salem, when can fans expect the premiere? Here’s what we know.

Motherland: Fort Salem season 3 release date predictions

We’re looking at a 2022 release window for the third season. Motherland: Fort Salem debuted as a midseason offering on the platform, so the show could return to that premiere schedule. However, that’s dependent on whether or not Freeform wants to slot the series back into the spring release window.

The witch drama premiered during the pandemic which is still raging throughout the globe. Season 2’s release was delayed because of this. As such, the series could permanently become a summer offering on Freeform to allow room for further delays because of COVID outbreaks.
