5 must-watch shows on BritBox in August 2021

24 Hours in Police Custody

We start with a reality series. 24 Hours in Police Custody Season 8 is on the streamer at the end of the month. It uses fixed rigs and handheld cameras to follow detectives and suspects. We get a look at the interrogations and the hunts for the suspects.

Not all cases are serious. There are some hilarious moments with the suspects as they come up with some of their stories.

24 Hours in Police Custody is available to stream on Friday, Aug. 20.

Blake’s 7

Need a comedy? Blake’s 7 offers plenty of humor within the sci-fi setting. It was created by Terry Nation, the man behind Doctor Who‘s Daleks.

In this series, Gareth Thomas is Roj Blake, a man leading a group of rebels against the Terran Federation, a totalitarian system. Along the way, there are aliens and spaceships to deal with things. Can the team succeed?

All episodes are available on Friday, Aug. 13.

McDonald and Dodds

What about a crime drama? McDonald and Dodds is a great option. The second season arrives on BritBox during August 2021.

It brings the perfect blend of drama and comedy, offering the unlikely duo that gets everything done. DCI McDonald and DS Dodds have new cases to solve, including one that involves five friends going up in a hot air balloon but only four making it back down alive.

Moone Boy

Martin Moone lives in Boyle, County Roscommon in the late ’80s and early ’90s. He’s the youngest child and only son in his family, so naturally, he gets up to a lot of mischief.

He does it all with his imaginary friend, Sean Murphy. This is a great comedy series packed with ridiculous schemes. it’s also semi-autobiographical created by Chris O’Dowd, who also stars as Sean.

Time

The last of the shows on BritBox on our list stars Sean Bean as Mark Cobden. Husband and father, Mark looks like your average guy, but it turns out that he killed an innocent man. He doesn’t hide his guilt as it tortures him deep down and welcomes the four-year prison sentence he gets.

We follow his time in the prison, one that is understaffed and filled with tensions. Stephen Graham is Eric McNally, a prison officer who is threatened by an inmate unless he betrays his ideals.

Watch all three episodes on Tuesday, Aug. 17.
