The best 80s movies of all-time No. 24: Beetlejuice

Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice. The infamous lines that I, for one, continue to use to this day. Yes, my list kicks off with back-to-back Michael Keaton films, and honestly, this is hands down one of my favorite performances of his.

Michael Keaton showcased insane range going from Beetlejuice in 1988 to Batman in 1989. No matter how you look at this movie, you can’t help but appreciate what Michael Keaton did in the role of Beetlejuice. The part is wild, dazzling, and outright hilarious from start to finish. However, upon rewatching it, I forgot how funny Keaton really is in this role and how this movie should NEVER be remade unless he is back at the helm.

Another cool thing to do is look back and see all the stars that were in this film. From mainstays at the time like Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Catherine O’Hara, it was Winona Ryder’s breakout that stands out the most.

Beetlejuice was Winona’s first significant role and she knocked it out of the ballpark. When the movie came out, critics were in love with her performance which helped jumpstart her long career.

Although his films are hit and miss, one thing we can agree upon is that Tim Burton’s creative mind is brilliant. His artistic approach to the movies is unique and different and he leaves an imprint on all his films that you know they are his when you watch them.
