Nine Perfect Strangers premieres on Hulu on Aug. 20. From the trailers, the location looks beautiful! Where was the Hulu series filmed and why is it significant?

More often than not, a show or film’s setting is not truly where it was filmed. As a matter of fact, the most popular filming locations are Georgia, New York, and various sets in Canada, instead of that beautiful island or city the show or film “takes place.”

The White Lotus is one of the few shows that did film where the story takes place, the beautiful Maui, Hawaii. And while “The White Lotus” hotel is fictional, the location really is a hotel resort, the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea, Maui, Hawaii.

Is the Hulu upcoming drama series Nine Perfect Strangers also the real deal when it comes to its filming location?

Where did they film Hulu’s Nine Perfect Strangers?

Due to the pandemic, Nine Perfect Strangers was not even filmed in America. Instead, the cast and crew flew to Australia. The entire series was filmed in Byron Bay in Australia over 18 weeks.

Nine Perfect Strangers isn’t the only project that was filmed during the pandemic and had to leave America to do so. Byron Bay and other locations in Australia have become significantly important.

Executive producer Bruna Papandrea tells Financial Review:

"“More than a year on Australia, with out relatively low infection rates, has become a mini-Hollywood, with productions like Marvel’s Thor: Love and Thunder, George Miller’s Mad Max prequel Furiosa, and Bax Luhrmann’s Elvis biopic currently being filmed here.”"

What is Nine Perfect Strangers about?

The upcoming Hulu series is based on the best-selling book of the same name from author Liane Moriarty. The drama will follow nine strangers arriving at Tranquillum House, a wellness resort center run by Masha (Kidman).

Masha practices physical and mental tactics that seem strange to the guests, but most are willing to try anything to rejuvenate their minds and heal. However, the guests soon realize nothing is as it seems as they begin to learn secrets about their host.
