If you can’t get enough of the Sopranos franchise, you’re not alone! In fact, series creator and screenwriter David Chase is right there with you. Is another spin-off in the works? Here’s what we know!

The Playlist has brought this to our attention, David Chase is not done with the franchise, but what’s ahead? A prequel, sequel, or something more unique?

There aren’t many TV fans who haven’t watched or at least heard of HBO’s The Sopranos. The source even credits the drama series for ushering “a huge wave of mature dramas,” and we have to agree! You can still find the series in many (if not all) Top TV shows of all-time lists.

The crime drama stars James Gandolfini, Lorraine Bracco, Edie Falco, and others. It premiered in 1999 and concluded in the year 2000. A highly anticipated prequel film, titled The Many Saints of Newark, starring Vera Farmiga, Jon Bernthal, Ray Liotta, Corey Stoll, Billy Magnussen, John Magaro, and others, will arrive to theaters Oct. 1, 2021.

What’s next for the The Sopranos?

In an interview with The Hollywood ReporterThe Many Saints of Newark director, Alan Taylor, shared that David Chase is interested in more Sopranos “content.”

Now, what does this mean? We’re not sure, as Chase didn’t specify, but also didn’t deny a spin-off or sequel wasn’t in the works.

Taylor told the source:

"“David said something that sounded like he was talking about [making more content]. I said, ‘Wait wait, are you talking about a sequel?’ And he said, ‘Maybe,'”"

A sequel to the Sopranos? Consider us intrigued!

What could Chase be waiting for before announcing any official plans he has in mind? Our guess is the prequel movie The Many Saints of Newark‘s release.

It’s understandable if Chase and others involved in the movie want to first see what the reception is for the movie. How will fans react, particularly longtime fans of the series?

The Many Saints of Newark will release in theaters and stream on HBO Max on Oct. 1, 2021. You can watch all seasons of The Sopranos on HBO Max.
