Titans season 3 spoilers: Is Minka Kelly leaving Titans?

Following the shocking events of the third episode of its third season, it was made clear that the Titans writers aren’t afraid to take bold risks even if it means saying goodbye to beloved characters and the actors who play them.

In season 3, episode 3, “Hank & Dove,” the Titans lost one of their own when Hank (Alan Ritchson) was murdered in the closing moments of the episode after Red Hood aka Jason Todd (Curran Walters) tricked Dawn (Minka Kelly) into detonating the bomb implanted in Hank’s chest.

Much like the Titans, viewers were stunned by the writer’s decision to kill off a member of the original team so early in the season and in such a shocking manner. Following Hank’s death, it was clear the team would need time to process with all eyes being on Dove and how exactly she would manage to recover from the role she had in Hank’s death.

While it was anticipated we’d see Dawn struggle with Hank’s death and her role in it throughout the upcoming episodes, episode 4, “Blackfire,” seemed to bring an abrupt end to the storyline with a twist that has many wondering whether we’ve seen the last of Minka Kelly this season as Dove.

Is Minka Kelly leaving Titans?

As Titans season 3, episode 4 begins, it’s clear that Dawn blames herself for Hank’s death as evident in her conversation with Conner (Joshua Orpin) and later with Dick (Brenton Thwaites).

While it was expected we’d see Dove struggle with the fallout of Hank’s death across the upcoming episodes, minutes into the episode it’s revealed that Dove has decided to leave Gotham, possibly for good. After packing her things, Dawn reveals to Dick that she’s going to head to Paris to stay at her family’s home as she processes Hank’s death and looks to put her days as Dove behind her.

The storyline seems to have been designed as an exit storyline for Minka Kelly and the character of Dawn, though at this time neither Kelly nor HBO Max has confirmed her exit from the show.

Will Minka Kelly be back as Dove in Titans season 3?

At this time, it remains to be seen whether we’ve truly seen the last of Minka Kelly and her Titans character as HBO Max has not yet confirmed whether Kelly has exited the series for good.

Considering the storyline in which Dove was written off of the show and the way Dawn suggested she was ready to put her days as a crime-fighter behind her for good, it does seem possible the storyline was introduced to accommodate Kelly’s exit from the show.

While we’ve not yet seen the entirety of the season, we can confirm Kelly’s character is not involved in at least the two forthcoming episodes — episodes 5 and 6. Beyond that, it’s unclear whether Dove will return at any point in the upcoming episodes of season 3. Given Dawn was very much alive when she leaves Gotham, the door was definitely left open for her to return later this season but whether a return is planned is to be seen.

As soon as additional information regarding Kelly’s future with the show becomes known, we’ll be sure to let you know. In the meantime, it looks like we could have witness Dove’s swan song and seen the last of her at least for this season.
