With the passing of Alex Trebek, it seems like Jeopardy! has truly gone off the rails. Since its premiere in 1984, the show has captivated households. For some, it’s a tradition to watch Jeopardy! every weekday and be able to play the game at home. However, recent events have seemed to change the course of the series we’ve come to know and love.

Of course, the passing of Alex Trebek left a huge hole in the Jeopardy world. No doubt that’s why they felt the need to bring in a parade of guest hosts in 2021. Finding a permanent host was something the show was planning on doing but not so soon after the loss of Trebek. However, things only got stickier from there.

For Jeopardy! fans, myself included, it was a mixed bag. We saw some good hosts, some who had potential and some who were downright awful. In general, the public had a lot of thoughts on who should and shouldn’t be considered for taking up the mantle Trebek left. However, it all came to a screeching halt in August 2021 when a new host was announced.

Jeopardy! announced that the new host would be Mike Richards, a producer for the show but an old scandal and fan disapproval quickly got him axed. Since then, Jeopardy! has decided to recruit Mayim Bialik, another guest host as a means for them to regroup. However, public opinion isn’t high on her either so who could truly be the most satisfying host for Jeopardy! fans?

Before getting started, Jeopardy! is a sacred TV show for some so it’s no surprise that finding a replacement for Trebek wouldn’t be easy. However, these are some of the candidates I think would appeal to both fans of the show and fans of the host. Of course, you’re free to disagree so I’d love to see who you would like to be the host of the acclaimed trivia show.

Which Jeopardy! guest host would appeal to fans and the public most?

Ken Jennings

Firstly, the major front-runner for most longtime fans is Ken Jennings. If you’re a fan of Jeopardy!, there’s no doubt you know who Jennings is. If not, Ken Jennings is the highest-earning game show contestant ever. Obviously, his claim to fame is being on Jeopardy! and appearing on the series 74 days in a row. While he’s been a fan favorite for a lot of viewers, personally I don’t think he’s the right fit to replace Trebek. However, for most fans, he’s the obvious choice.

Aaron Rodgers

Another surprisingly good host fit is Aaron Rodgers. Considering how much drama he’s had in Green Bay this year, this would be a nice change of pace for the show and him. Rodgers had great delivery, knew how to make jokes, and really felt like he was trying to embody Alex Trebek while doing his own thing. Of all the hosts, Rodgers is definitely my pick as doubtful as it may be.

Anderson Cooper and others

Some other favorites during the 2021 host carousel were Anderson Cooper, Buzzy Cohen, Robin Roberts, and David Faber. Considering all of them have a full-time gig, it’s unlikely the show will pick any of them. However, they all did a good job and would be great candidates to replace Trebek.

Ultimately though, finding a new Jeopardy! Host is proving more difficult than we all imagined so it’s going to be interesting to see how the show handles things. As someone who enjoyed Richards as a host, it’s frankly disappointing to learn about his abhorrent behavior. Hopefully, by the end of 2022, we’ll be able to see a new face behind the podium that Alex Trebek left behind.
