New reports are teasing that Christopher Moltisanti from The Sopranos will be narrating The Many Saints of Newark and fans love this choice, but they have questions. Here’s why.

A spoiler alert shouldn’t be necessary as The Sopranos isn’t a new series, but just in case you’re not familiar with the franchise, this is your spoiler warning!

According to Screen Rant, reports are coming in from CinemaCon in Las Vegas about new The Many Saints of Newark footage that was shown to fans. As audiences watched, one voice sounded very, very familiar.

The source shares that, “at least one scene in the upcoming The Sopranos prequelThe Many Saints of Newark, will feature a surprising cameo.” Fans were surprised to learn that this cameo is from Christopher Moltisanti. Not so much because of the reference, but because this character is, well, no longer alive.

Why is Christopher Moltisanti narrating The Sopranos’ The Many Saints of Newark?

The Many Saints of Newark will feature a young Tony Soprano and “younger versions of other” popular characters from the series. This includes, Tony’s parents, and Christopher’s father, Dickie Moltisanti.

As you may be wondering, Christopher Moltisanti was killed by Tony in The Sopranos season 6. Not only that, but he shouldn’t be old enough (or even exist just yet) to be in the prequel.

From the source, here is what fans hear Christopher’s voiceover say:

"“The little fat kid is my uncle, Tony Soprano. Well, we call him my uncle, by marriage. He chocked me to death.”"

Screen Rant says it best: due to James Gandolfini’s untimely death, it’s impossible to ignore his presence in the franchise:

"“..the mantle of Tony Soprano in the film is being assumed by none other than Gandolfini’s real son, Michael.”"

It makes a lot of sense why, due to how close Christopher and Tony were in the original series, the narration pays tribute to Tony’s role in making The Sopranos.

Need another reason why Christopher makes the perfect narrator? The movie is titled The Saints of Newark, which hints that the focus of the film will be the Moltisantis and not the Sopranos.

Only one way to see how it all connects, and that’s to watch the movie when it arrives in theaters and HBO Max on Oct. 1, 2021. Will you be watching the movie in theaters or streaming it from home?
