Captain Olivia Benson is back to lead her Special Victims Unit in Law & Order: SVU Season 23, which returns for a two-part premiere tonight on NBC.
Last season, Benson and her team were uncovering a sex-for-housing scandal. Benson learned that this scandal might include people in political power like Congressman Howard (Ben Rappaport) with presidential aspirations.
Mariska Hargitay returns for her 23rd season as Benson. Returning to join Hargitay in the main cast are Ice-T, who has been on the show since Season 2, Kelli Giddish, and Peter Scanavino. Unfortunately, Jamie Gray Hyder and Demore Barnes are departing the series. Their characters’ fates will be revealed during the premiere.
Law & Order: SVU received a three season rental in 2020, which would take the show through Season 24. What does Season 23 have in store for Benson?

As previously stated, Benson and her team are staring down a case that could change that could change the complexion of the city. After the arrest of Catalina Machado in the Season 22 finale, she’s ready to cut a deal with the feds, and names Congressman Howard as one of the top names behind the operation.
In the teaser, Cast. Benson confronts the congressman about being a sexual predator. The congressman is not afraid, and threatens to remove Benson from power. Towards the end of the clip, Benson is being tailed by another car, and crashes. A familiar face comes to the rescue as Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) is by her side, helping her to safety. What will be the fate of Benson?
