It’s been more than two years since When Hope Calls first debuted on Hallmark Movies Now and it seems there is finally good news for fans of the When Calls the Heart spinoff series! Nearly two years after the season 1 finale aired on Oct. 24, 2019, When Hope Calls season 2 has officially been confirmed — but there is a major twist!

Rather than returning to Hallmark Channel Now or even to Hallmark Channel, season 2 of When Hope Calls has found a new home on the recently rebranded GAC Family (formerly Great American Country). As first confirmed by Deadline, GAC Family has swooped in to save the series in greenlighting a second season which will begin in late 2021.

When will the new season kick off and what exactly does the show’s move to a new network mean for season 2? Below we break down everything that is currently known about When Hope Calls season 2 including its premiere date, cast, synopsis, and more!

When Hope Calls season 2 premiere date

Season 2 of When Hope Calls will kick off on Saturday, Dec. 18 with a special 2-part holiday premiere event titled When Hope Calls: A Country Christmas. 

When Hope Calls season 2 cast

Given it’s been two years since season 1 wrapped and the show is now on the move to a new network, new deals are currently being worked out with the show’s original cast. At this time, the only star who has been confirmed for season 2 is Morgan Kohan, who will be reprising her role as Lillian Walsh, though it also appears RJ Hatanaka will be returning to reprise his role as Gabriel Kinslow.

The good news is that it has been reported that additional cast members will be announced soon so fans should know soon whether fellow season 1 cast members Jocelyn Hudon (Grace Bennett), Greg Hovanessian (Dr. Chuck Stewart), Wendy Crewson (Tess Stewart), Elizabeth Saunders (Eleanor Winters), Neil Crone (Ronnie Stewart), Jefferson Brown (Joe Moody), Kim Roberts (Pearl Mayfair) and Marshall Williams (Sam Tremblay) will be returning for season 2 as well.

One cast addition that has been confirmed is that of Lori Loughlin, who will guest in the first two episodes of the season as her When Calls the Heart character Abigail Stanton.

When Hope Calls season 2 synopsis

Although no official synopsis for the season has been released, GAC Family has dropped the synopsis for the When Hope Calls season 2 premiere event, When Hope Calls: A Country Christmas, which provides us with a look at what’s to come in the opening hours of the season!

Here’s how GAC Family describes When Hope Calls: A Country Christmas: 

"In When Hope Calls: A Country Christmas, Part 1, Brookfield hosts a Christmas festival as one of three contenders in Harper’s Bazaar’s search for America’s #1 Country Christmas Town. The entire town is preoccupied with creating the essence of Christmas for the photojournalist’s lens, though, behind the scenes, residents are not living the spirit of the season. In the midst of the fuss, a stagecoach appears, and out steps Abigail Stanton and her son, Cody (Carter Ryan), who have brought a troubled boy to Lillian’s orphanage.In When Hope Calls: A Country Christmas, Part 2, photojournalist Paul Franklin is wrapping his stay in Brookfield. By now, he blends in as the town prepares for Christmas Eve. Lillian, the orphans, and Gabriel are running out of options to restore the troubled boy’s hope for better times. Just when all seems lost, a secret Santa appears to fulfill all holiday wishes, and Abigail has a profound conversation with a dear friend from the past. Meanwhile, Paul’s lens is recording every miraculous moment."
