After a season focused on COVID and coma beach, we’re focused back on the everyday emergencies and relationships at Grey Sloan Memorial. During the previous season, Teddy and Owen got engaged, and now it’s time for them to take the next step.

That means wedding bells, right? It looks like it does based on the promo for the season, but that wedding is about to be interrupted by an emergency. That’s pretty standard for a Grey Sloan Memorial wedding, right? Have any gone off without a hitch?

Ellis Grey returns on the Grey’s Anatomy Season 18 premiere

At some point in the episode, we’ll get to see Ellis Grey again. It’s not entirely clear how that’s going to work without Meredith being on coma beach. It looks like Meredith is just going to see her mom to help guide her moving forward.

Meredith almost lost her life during the previous season again. Now she’s back, she needs to figure out what she’s going to do. She’ll want to focus on family, but she’ll also want to focus on work. It’ll leave little time for Meredith and Hayes to get together. There’s still time for that relationship to happen, though.

Meanwhile, Bailey needs to find some new doctors. Jackson and Koracick have left, and they are big shoes to fill. Amelia can step up as the chief of neurosurgery with Tom gone, but what about plastics? Is there anyone who will live up to Jackson’s standard?
