La Brea episode 2: What are sisters Lily and Veronica Castillo hiding?

The mystery in La Brea isn’t only finding out where the survivors are located and how to save them, but some characters are hiding a few secrets about themselves, too! What exactly is the deal with sisters Lily and Veronica Castillo?

NBC’s new series follows a group of survivors who fell into a massive sinkhole that randomly opened in the middle of Los Angeles.

La Brea quickly drops hints about where the survivors are and if there’s a way to save them, but that’s not the only question we have. In season 1, episode 2, titled “Day Two,” we also are now wondering about sisters Lily (Chloe De Los Santos) and Veronica Castillo (Lily Santiago).

Their father died saving them and Veronica is desperately trying to bury him because, “it’s what God commands.” It seems innocent, but a few things are sketchy about the Castillo sisters.

What is Veronica’s secret in La Brea?

The young sister, Lily, seems innocent enough. Veronica claimed that Lily doesn’t speak and “hasn’t for years,” but we later learn this is a lie. Lily is able to speak just fine. This lie isn’t really Lily’s fault. She seems to be manipulated by her older sister.

Later we also learn that Lily isn’t allowed to watch videos online (or maybe even use the phone in general).

While searching for her dad’s body, Veronica goes with Scott (Rohan Mirchandaney) and we learn even more about her. Veronica is extremely religious and judgmental, two traits that go hand-in-hand in movies and TV shows.

Even more startling is what Veronica and Scott discover: Veronica’s dead father in the middle of rocks piled together to form the shape of a hand. Veronica proceeds to bury her father, but they are both puzzled about where the rocks came from and who made the shape.

When Veronica gets back, she scolds Lily for watching videos. Veronica also tells Lily that they can’t trust the others because they won’t “understand” them. Understand what? What do you think they hiding? Could the two be part of a cult?
