Tragic news comes from New Mexico on Thursday, as it’s been reported actor Alec Baldwin was involved in a prop gun accident gone wrong. The incident has left one crew member dead and another injured.

According to The New York Times, the 63-year-old star was on location for his upcoming western movie Rust, directed by Joel Souza and also starring Jensen Ackles and Travis Fimmel. The fatal incident took place on Oct. 21, when Baldwin shot a prop gun and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. Baldwin also injured Souza.

A spokesman for the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office says they were either in the middle of filming a scene or rehearsing when the heartbreaking incident occurred. The shooting is still being investigated and as of now, charges have not been filed against anyone.

Hutchins was reportedly flown into the University of New Mexico Hospital after being shot, where she later passed away. For Souza’s part, he was reportedly taken to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center, and his condition is currently unknown.

Baldwin has yet to make a statement on the tragedy, though he was photographed talking on the phone in tears outside of the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday, as reported by the Daily Beast.

Per The New York Times, the film’s production company, Rust Movie Productions LLC, released the following statement:

"“The entire cast and crew has been absolutely devastated by today’s tragedy, and we send our deepest condolences to Halyna’s family and loved ones. We have halted production on the film for an undetermined period of time and are fully cooperating with the Santa Fe Police Department’s investigation. We will be providing counseling services to everyone connected to the film as we work to process this awful event.”"

This is incredibly terrible news and we’re thinking of Hutchins’ family and friends at this time. No word on when filming on Rust will pick back up, as per the statement from the production company, they’re paused for an “undetermined period of time.” We’re wishing Souza a speedy recovery.
