The characters of Supergirl haven’t always had the best of luck in the love department. The CW superhero drama has never taken it easy on our favorite superheroes and that is the one thing that hasn’t changed in six seasons.

Supergirl herself has had terrible luck in love and her last serious relationship ended with Mon-El having to leave Earth because of lead poisoning and then ending up in the future. When she tried to move on with William her secret identity kept getting in the way and then after she became trapped in the Phantom Zone she returned only to find out that William had already moved on. Ouch. Not that she seemed to care much, it looks like the Girl of Steel had moved on as well.

Kara’s sister Alex has has similar bad luck when it comes to relationships. Her first real relationship with Maggie started strong but soon ended because Alex desperately wanted to be a mother and Maggie did not. After that Alex was alone for a while, until she met Kelly Olsen and perhaps now her luck has finally changed for the better.

Alex and Kelly plan proposals on Supergirl

Being a superhero doesn’t leave much time for love, but somehow Alex Danvers and Kelly Olsen have made it work. Especially now with Kelly officially joining the Super Friends as the new Guardian the two seem closer than ever.

So it didn’t come as a big surprise when Alex came into the Tower and showed off an engagement ring she had bought for Kelly. Kelly not only shares her passion for justice and her vigilante activities but she also wants to be a parent. And now the two of them have adopted Esme as their own, and boy is she the cutest little girl I’ve ever seen.

But, as on any good drama, things always go wrong. So did Alex and Kelly actually get engaged? Well for a moment it seemed like they wouldn’t. Alex planned to propose on the anniversary of the night she first knew she loved Kelly, at the same table in the same bar. Only when she went there to set up she was told the bar was booked for a private event. Alex is still obviously nursing some pain over her failed engagement to Maggie because she convinced herself if she couldn’t have the perfect engagement then she and Kelly would be doomed.

On the day she had planned to propose, Alex gets called to the bar only to find that Kelly had had the same thought and that Kelly was the only who had booked the bar in order to propose to her! The fact that they both realized they loved each other at the same moment in time and had the same proposal idea was very sweet.

Of course nothing comes easy for heroes so the moment is inevitably interrupted by the villains when the love totem appears to Alex and the Super Friends have to head off to fight Nyxly and Lex. Except this Lex is from the future and is apparently in love with Nyxly. Yes its a little odd so we won’t even get into that.

At the end of it Alex and Kelly finally find a moment to get back to their proposals and they get engaged! With Esme and their friends all there to celebrate the happy moment. Alex spent most of her life putting aside her own wants and needs in order to protect her sister so no one deserves a loving family and a happy ending more than her. So cheers to the happy couple!

Unfortunately we’ll only get a few episodes to see Alex and Kelly as a happily engaged/married couple but Chyler Leigh will be reprising her role on The Flash soon so hopefully we’ll get updates on how they’re doing!
