What does La Brea mean?

NBC debuted a new series for the Fall TV season that has many fans talking, La Brea. What does the title mean and is this a real location? How deep are the La Brea Tar Pits?

Many audiences are learning about La Brea for the first time now that the name is the title of a new NBC drama series. The La Brea Tar Pits is a famous spot in Los Angeles. The series follows a group of survivors who fell into a massive sinkhole that opened up in the middle of L.A., including La Brea. The series also follows the loved ones of those who fell as they do all they can to rescue them.

Where are the real La Brea pits?

The title of the series is definitely fun and catchy, I’m sure it captured a lot of attention, but the real location isn’t as exciting as you may think.

In another feature, we share how deep the pits are and…it’s not too impressive, only a few inches deep, but they do have many cool stories and legends behind them! For starters, it’s a Historical Landmark in California that we recommend visiting if you are ever in the area.

As we shared before, there have been reports of mysterious springs of sticky black pitch that date back to 1769, catching the attention of scientists.

The La Brea Tar Pits site also shares that fossils have been found throughout the years, including those of woolly mammoths and saber toothed tigers. Today, the site is home to the George C. Page Museum, where you’ll find fossils on display and more. Check out the site to learn more about it.
