As we get closer to Christmas, you’re likely looking for some great movies to watch. Here are the top Christmas movies with your HBO Max subscription.

There are some excellent movies available to stream on HBO Max. This is the place to watch some great oldies and also some brilliant new arrivals.

When it comes to Christmas movies, the list can be overwhelming. That’s why we’ve narrowed it down to the top five movies, with something for the whole family and all genre interests.

A Christmas Story

This 1983 movie is just one of the best for every Christmas. It doesn’t matter how many times you’ve watched it.

Ralphie Parker spends most of his time dodging the local bully and dreaming of his perfect Christmas gift. This Christmas, he just needs to make it to Christmas Day with his glasses (and his hopes) intact!

Elf

There’s no way you can go a Christmas without watching Elf. Even if you’re not the biggest Will Ferrel fan in other movies, Elf is just one of those that is full of heart and laughter.

It focuses on an elf who learns that he’s not actually an elf. His human father is on Santa’s naughty list, and Buddy heads to New York to help get his father off that list. Of course, he’s been raised around magic and goodness, so he gets a rude awakening in NYC.

Four Christmases

What about a comedy? Four Christmases tends to get a bad rep, but if you’re a Reese Witherspoon fan, it really is a must-watch.

The movie follows a couple who tend to go away every Christmas. They feed all sorts of lies to their families about work to avoid spending Christmas with them. When their vacation plans are canceled publically, they have to face four Christmases with each of their families.

Gremlins

Yes, Gremlins is most definitely a Christmas movie and it’s one of the best Christmas movies on HBO Max this year. Put it on for the whole family and have a few jump scares while you also laugh away at the antics of the Gremlins.

Billy gets a pet from China and has just three simple rules to follow. Of course, he doesn’t follow those rules and soon New York City is faced with creatures that want to destroy.

The Polar Express

The last one is perfect for the entire family. The Polar Express is based on the book of the same name by Chris Van Allsburg and offers a lot of lessons about Christmas and life in general.

Tom Hanks voices six different characters in the movie, including the Train Conductor. A young boy finds himself on the Polar Express to the North Pole on Christmas Eve and meets Santa. He’ll need to start believing in the magic of Christmas again.
