NCIS season 19 episode 9 found the team investigating an interesting case while looking into a former financial advisor’s murder. When Sandra Holdren is found murdered outside a naval yard, the team looks into the case. What is interesting about it is they can actually interview the victim itself. How is that possible?

It turns out that before her death, she had paid for a service that allowed her to be interviewed and made into a hologram. She did this to be able to communicate with her estranged daughter, Ruby. After Sandra had embezzled money from her clients, Ruby refused to speak to her since it led to her beloved brother’s death.

Sandra was actually diagnosed with cancer and was doing this in the hopes that her daughter would know how she cared for her, even though work kept her so busy.

NCIS season 19 episode 9 finds a hologram solving a murder

Jessica and Nick speak with the hologram version of Sandra, with Jessica more into this than Nick with the whole idea. Eventually, evidence appears to lead them towards Geoffrey, her beloved valet.

At first, it does look like he is guilty, but he tells them that while he was paid to write a threatening note to Sandra, he has an alibi to prove his innocence in her murder. As it turns out, the real culprit had used Geoffrey in an effort to to frame him for the murder.

The twist to the case comes in the form of Sandra’s lawyer and best friend, who went by the name Jamie2Shoes. While talking to her hologram, he breaks down and admits he had convinced her son, Ben, to embezzle the money, and Sandra took the blame to protect her son.

This revelation sparks Ruby to realize her mother’s innocence and she knows in her heart that she did this because her brother was her best friend. Sandra didn’t want Ruby to lose that connection to her brother.

Despite how completely heartbreaking this ended up being, we got a little insight into Jessica in this case as well. She has been having issues with her own mom and Nick encourages her to not let the chance to communicate go. While we may not know much about Jessica’s personal life, it’s nice to get some glimpses into who she is as we learn more about this new team member.
