30. Last Christmas

Release Year: 2019
Directed By: Paul Feig
Starring: Emilia Clarke, Henry Golding, Michelle Yeoh, Emma Thompson

This movie is criminally underrated. Sure, when the first trailers came out, many called the big twist. Those who didn’t catch the twist were able to see it coming halfway through the movie, but so what? So what if a movie is predictable? Aren’t all Christmas movies?

What matters here is that Last Christmas is sweet and a tear-jerker. It also features a talented and fun cast.

Last Christmas follows Kate (Emilia Clarke), a young woman who is not living life to her full potential despite just coming back from a scary life-or-death situation last year. Just when Kate finds herself out of luck (again), she meets Tom (Henry Golding), a young man who’s a bit odd, but teacher Kate the beauty of life and the small things.

The holiday movie premiered in theaters in 2019 and gathered a worldwide total of $121.5 million. For a budget of $25 million, that’s not too shabby at all!
