Ladies and gentlemen, the Pearson family is back for the last hurrah as This Is Us Season 6 returns tonight at 9 p.m. ET only on NBC.
It’s been just over seven months since the season 5 finale aired, which is the longest gap between the previous season’s finale and subsequent season’s premiere in the show’s history. In typical This Is Us fashion, the show teased a few years into the future, and the results were shocking.
The most surprising reveal in the last flash-forward was Kate’s impending nuptials to Phillip, her coworker at school. Unfortunately, this means Kate and Toby’s marriage will disintegrate and end in a divorce. Make sure to stock up on tissues this season because sad times are ahead.
In the same flash-forward, Kevin is preparing a toast for Kate in his hotel room, and he might be with his new girlfriend or wife. A picture of Randall in a magazine profile with the headline “rising star” is seen. Plus, Nicky is a married man.
As seen in other flash-forwards, the show is building towards the Big Three’s final meeting with Rebecca at the house Kevin built. The Pearson matriarch is presumably on her death bed, and the family gathers together for her final moments. Will the final scene of the show highlight Rebecca’s potential death, or will it end on a happier note?
Predictions aside, Season 6 will be a roller coaster of emotions. What should we expect in the season premiere?
What happens in the This Is Us season 6 premiere?
Like most of the seasons prior, the Season 6 premiere will cover the Big Three’s birthday. This year, the Big Three celebrate their 41st birthday. The episode is titled, “The Challenger.” This is a reference to the series premiere when Kevin mentioned the Challenger explosion as the day his life went downhill.
