The COVID surge this season has already pushed the release of a big movie back three months as Morbius will now premiere in April 2022 (if all goes according to plan) and now Omicron is forcing ABC to halt production on a handful of shows, TV Line reports.

According to the source, Grey’s Anatomy, Station 19, The Rookie, and a few other ABC dramas have “delayed the restart of production” as a result of the resurgent pandemic. TV Line shares that, in order to keep their cast and crew safe, this is the best move ABC can do at this time.

Many were set to return to work on the shows this week after a holiday break, but instead ABC has decided to hit pause and observe the situation more closely. When does production resume on these shows? How will this impact the upcoming episodes and seasons? Here’s what we know!

Will Grey’s Anatomy be delayed due to COVID?

At this time, no. TV Line shares that production has only been delayed by one week, so everything will resume next week. The question is — will one week be enough to continue safely? Probably. With proper testing and precautions in place, the job can get done. It may take a little longer, but not enough to push back any already set premiere dates or time slots.

TV Line continues to report that the case is the same for Station 19 and Rookie, with production resuming in a few days and that this is all to be extra careful. Again, this should not impact any of these show’s on-air schedules. Of course, if anything changes, we’ll update this post with the latest!

At the time of this writing, other networks such as CBS and NBC are not pausing production, but some execs have said they are handling things on a “case-by-case” basis.
