Who’s ready for another family drama from FOX? The network loves a good power struggle between parents, siblings, and an off-shot uncle or two. It’s the kind of arguing at the dinner table, tussling in the streets type of dust-up that tends to rake in an audience,

In January, their new drama series, Monarch, will introduce viewers to the Romans. Their talent has cemented their place as the first family of country music. To the outside world they’re an inseparable bunch led by Dottie Cantrell Roman (Susan Sarandon) and Albie Roman (Trace Adkins), the queen and king of their side of the industry.

But the face they present to the world hides a past plagued by lies involving their personal lives and their success as musicians. While the two have no real plans to step down from their thrones, what they’ve been hiding is threatening to shake the very foundation of their family’s legacy.

Their daughter, Nicky (Anna Friel), will do whatever she has to in order to keep the reputation her parents and family forged intact. She is on the cusp of her own greatness after a lifetime living in Dottie’s shadow. However, if she thinks she’s the only one interested in claiming her mother’s title, she’s got another think coming.

Gigi Taylor-Roman (Beth Ditto) has a voice that can shake the rafters down. She doesn’t have the look people expect from the Queen of Country Music but it’s time for those expectations to change. After all, their style of singing, picking, and storytelling is all about homegrown heart and the trials and triumphs of life. That’s all that should matter at the end of the day.

Monarch season 1 premiere date on Fox

Update – Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2022

Monarch has been pushed to FOX’s 2022-2023 television schedule. TVLine reports that the series will now make its debut during the Fall TV season. A spokesperson for FOX Entertainment gave the following reason:

"Unfortunately, due to the unavoidable realities of the pandemic and the profound impact Covid-19 continues to have on our industry and around the world, it is necessary to reschedule Monarch‘s January 30 debut to the Fall.As the cornerstone of Fox’s new 2022-23 slate, shifting a show of this magnitude allows us to have its entire first season produced, create additional, high-profile content and promotional windows to support launch, and give our viewers the best opportunity to enjoy the series as intended with a non-compromised run of episodes. We thank our cast, producers, writers and the entire crew for their tireless work and continued dedication to the country music-filled world that is Monarch."

As such the show has been pulled from the schedule and will no longer be premiering on Sunday, Jan. 30, 2022 at 10 p.m. ET on FOX nor will it be sliding into the Tuesday 9 p.m. slot on February 1. A new premiere date has yet to be announced. We’ll keep you posted as more news comes in.
