With a star-studded cast and stellar storyline, Yellowjackets is one of the best Showtime original series in years. The drama follows a group of teenagers in the ’90s whose plane crashes on their way to a soccer tournament, and we get to see the lengths they must go to survive in the wilderness for 19 months.

As we watch the group deal with being stranded in their new reality, we also see the survivors’ lives in present-day. Though it’s been 25 years since the plane crash, the ladies are still haunted by what they had to do and the lies they’ve been telling. Yellowjackets is very, very mysterious and leaves the viewer wanting more with each episode, and fans had tons of questions leading into the finale.

Now that the final episode in the first season is out, what did we find out? Keep reading to find out!

Spoilers ahead for Yellowjackets season 1.

Unfortunately, the Yellowjackets season 1 finale didn’t answer most of our questions, and so we’re still left guessing as to what happens to Shauna’s (Sophie Nélisse) baby, who actually killed Travis (Kevin Alves), and whether or not the ladies resorted to cannibalism when they were stranded. Fortunately, a second season is in the works, so the story’s not over yet.

What happened to Jackie in Yellowjackets?

One thing we did learn in the Yellowjackets season 1 finale, however, is how Jackie (Ella Purnell) dies. It’s made known early on in the season that she is no longer alive in present-day, with Shauna still grieving her death and feeling shame about her marriage to Jackie’s then-boyfriend Jeff (Warren Kole). Shauna and Jeff were secretly hooking up as teenagers while Jeff was dating Jackie, and Jeff got Shauna pregnant.

When reading Shauna’s diary while out in the wilderness, Jackie discovers that Jeff was the father of Shauna’s baby. Of course, she is devastated at the discovery which throws major wrench in her friendship with Shauna. This is just one of the many instances where Jackie feels betrayed and alone. Because of her selfish and rude personality, the other girls don’t ever take Jackie’s side, and that’s understandable.

The tension gets real one night where the group decides to host their own homecoming party and they unknowingly eat Misty’s (Sammi Hanratty) magic mushrooms. Things get really weird, and some of the girls start coming onto Travis in a super predatory way. Lottie (Courtney Eaton) even says that they need to kill him, but fortunately that doesn’t end up happening.

Jackie confronts the group the next day, telling Shauna she knows about Jeff and asks about what they did to Travis. The ladies turn against her and tell her to leave, and she does. She ends up sleeping outside that night, but it’s way too cold. It snows overnight, and Jackie sadly freezes to death. Shauna discovers her the next morning, and needless to say is heartbroken.

The cause of Jackie’s death was a major question throughout the whole season, and it was really sad to see her go. We don’t find out how the group was eventually saved, and with the pace that the first season goes with its reveals, it’s certainly possible we won’t find out in season 2.

Yellowjackets season 2 doesn’t have a release date yet considering season 1 just concluded, but we’ll keep you updated with all the latest we hear. In the meantime, you can watch all 10 episodes of the premiere season right now on Showtime.
