What is 2022’s How I Met Your Father on Hulu about?
For years, we all followed the adventures of the gang on How I Met Your Mother, but this time, Hulu is remixing it. How I Met Your Father premiered on January 18 on Hulu and it’s already very popular.
Aside from having a catchy title, the show also has a solid ensemble cast. Obviously, all of us who grew up in the ‘00s are excited about Hilary Duff playing the lead. Considering we’ll never get to see the Lizzie McGuire reboot, it’s nice to see that she’s finally getting a chance to be the lead in something after her time on TV Land’s Younger.
Even so, How I Met Your Father is obviously supposed to be the millennial/Gen Z version of How I Met Your Mother. As evidenced by the trailer and the first episode, it seems like the target audience is college-age adults and it’s trying to be Friends for another generation which is basically every sitcom featuring a group of friends at this point.

What is Hulu’s How I Met Your Father about?
As mentioned above, How I Met Your Father is a spinoff of How I Met Your Mother which follows Ted telling his kids the story of how he met their mother. This time, the remixed version of it features Sophie who is played by Hilary Duff telling her son the story of how she met his father and older Sophie is played by Kim Cattrall.
In addition to following Sophie’s journey as a young adult in New York, we also follow her friends: Valentina, Jesse, Sid, Charlie, and Ellen. Once again, this show is borrowing heavily from its predecessor as it’s featuring almost the exact same themes and story. However, the modern take should help it appeal to an entirely new audience.
However, there is one more small detail worth noting. Jesse who is friends with Sophie actually lives in Ted, Marshall, and Lily’s old apartment. It’s not an obvious homage but enough that fans of the original will notice. While reviews have been mixed, there are only two episodes out right now so you can really be the judge if you’re going to enjoy the series.
Personally, if you enjoyed the latter, it’s likely you’ll enjoy How I Met Your Father. If you didn’t watch the original, it’ll be nice to go in with fresh eyes. Either way, it seems like How I Met Your Father could be a hit for Hulu.
