Spoilers ahead of Euphoria season 2, episode 4

Euphoria season 2 has been difficult for Rue fans. We’re only four episodes in, but she’s in a real rough spot. The showrunner and cast did warn viewers that this season would be much darker than the first but watching Rue’s relapse has been particularly excruciating.

In episode 4, “You Who Cannot See, Think of Those Who Can,” Rue had taken so much drugs that she couldn’t be present in an intimate moment with Jules. Each scene with her consisted of her high darkening, so much so that it scared Elliott into telling Jules the truth about Rue’s sobriety when he saw her drinking.

The mild intervention in the car earlier in the episode didn’t go well. In her inebriated state, Rue told Jules that she couldn’t stand her and had Elliott drop her off on the side of the road so she could walk home. It was a situation that shook both Jules and Elliott.

Meanwhile, at home, Rue continued to get high, so much so that she ended up having a spiritual vision where she was in a church being embraced by the show’s composer, Emmy award-winning artist Labrinth. His haunting vocals played over a scene where the embrace shifted back and forth between Labrinth and her father as she apologized for not being a good person.

It was a heartbreaking moment for the teen that left some fans wondering whether or not they should be preparing for a major death in the next episode.

Did Rue die in Euphoria season 2?

It’s not likely that Rue has died though it wouldn’t be surprising if she once again overdosed. She’s been using heroin, fentanyl, and benzos. In “You Who Cannot See, Think of Those Who Can,” she hadn’t let up. She was even mixing what she took with alcohol. It left her in a terrifying stupor that we’re going to see the aftermath of in episode 5.

Given the trailer, it’ll be a rough episode to watch:

New episodes of Euphoria premiere Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on HBO and HBO Max. Season 2 will have an eight episode run. We’ll keep you posted on the show’s renewal status. Stay tuned to Hidden Remote!
