Lightyear movie release date, cast, trailer, and more
There’s a ton of buzz going around after the new Lightyear trailer landed on screens today. It revealed the main voice cast and that the Disney/Pixar film will feature scores from Emmy winning composer, Michael Giacchino (Jurassic Park). Needless to say, it’s one of the most anticipated movies of the year. Here’s everything to know about the movie so far.
Lightyear movie synopsis
The film will explore the origin story of the Toy Story character, Buzz Lightyear. The iconic space ranger started as a test pilot and his first solo sci-fi action adventure will navigate that transformation.
Director, Angus MacLane (Finding Dory) explains in a press release that, “Buzz’s world was always something I was excited about.” MacLane was fascinated by which movie Andy may have watched to inspire him to “want a Buzz Lightyear toy.” Fortunately, he’ll be able to answer that question and more during this intergalactic mission. Buzz’s world has always been something fans have been interested in, we’re happy we’ll be exploring more of it, soon.
Lightyear movie cast
Fans are excited to see that, in addition to previously announced Chris Evans (Captain America) to play Buzz, other voice actors include earnest space recruits Keke Palmer (The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder), Dale Soules (Orange is the New Black), Taika Waititi (Boys). The cast also features Uzo Aduba (Orange is the New Black), James Brolin (Traffic), Mary McDonald-Lewis (Twilight), Efren Ramirez (Napoleon Dynamite), Isiah Whitlcok Jr. (The Good Cop) and Peter Sohn (The Iron Giant) as Buzz’s adorable cat-shaped robot buddy.
"“Each of the performers immediately inhabited their character,” MacLane said, “which gave us the opportunity to play a bit during recording sessions. This resulted in a level of specificity that elevated the material and brought additional depth to the characters’ relationships. It has been a privilege to work with such a talented and generous cast.”"
