After a long wait, we got to know how things turned out with the car crash on Grey’s Anatomy. Did Owen Hunt survive the fall?

Caution: There are spoilers in this post for the Station 19 and Grey’s Anatomy two-hour crossover event on Thursday, Feb. 24.

We’ve waited since Dec. 16, 2021 for answers about that car accident. Owen Hunt was left in the car as it went over the cliff edge, leaving us all wondering if he would survive. Station 19 got straight into the rescue mission, with the initial news being that the civilian doctor who had been driving the car had died.

What about Owen? He was alive, but he was badly injured. Ben Warren got to him, but it was Sullivan who was able to help Owen remain focused as the firefighters of Station 19 got the roof of the car off to get Owen to the hospital.

Could the doctors of Grey’s Anatomy save Owen’s life?

What would happen once everyone got to Grey Sloan Memorial? Amelia, Link, and Nico were the ones operating. Amelia needed to deal with the spinal injury, which would usually take precedent. However, Link made it clear that Owen’s broken leg was so shattered that it needed to be operated on first. If they didn’t do that, Owen would lose his leg so paralyzing him would be a moot point.

Nico stepped in to help find a way to save both Owen’s leg and his ability to walk again. He’d be able to get in from an angle that wouldn’t disrupt Amelia.

The three managed to work together in the operating room, although Link did ask for the gallery to be closed to viewers when he saw Kai up there. By the end of the episode, Owen woke up in pain but to the news that he’d still be able to walk.

What happened to Hayes on Grey’s Anatomy?

It’s not all over just yet, though. During the accident, Owen admitted to giving one of his patients help to die. That wouldn’t be a problem, but there are now soldiers turning up from states that don’t offer patients the right to die humanely. Hayes couldn’t have that on his conscience.

Hayes told Owen he would need to turn himself in. When it was clear Owen wouldn’t do that, Hayes did the one thing he felt he had to. He resigned from the hospital, telling everyone that he decided it was time to head back to Ireland.

Will Hayes actually leave? That’s something we’ll have to see, but it may be the end of McWidow’s storyline.
