Why is 1883 season 2 is not happening on Paramount?
By Sandy C.
1883 was quick to gather up a large following and after its recent season 1 finale, fans have taken to social media to share how excited they are for another season. Unfortunately, as Deadline reports, 1883 season 2 will not be happening.
Not only does it seem that we forgot 1883 was promoted as a miniseries (one-season series), but that doesn’t truly mean anything in many cases. Just to name a few, Big Little Lies and The White Lotus are two series that were intended to be “limited series,” but received a renewal order. So with the excitement and popularity of 1883 pretty high, fans assumed the same would be happening here.
However, according to the source, writer-director Taylor Sheridan shares that the intention was to make a one-season series, commenting, “We wanted to make a ten-hour movie.” And they did just that, and what an ending!
1883 season 2 is not happening
Despite the fan following, brilliant storytelling, and stunning performances, Sheridan is opting to not focus his time on another season. And you know what? This is pretty admirable. With its success, another season (or more) would perform great! But instead of getting the most out of it, Sheridan is happy with what he and his team have created.
Sheridan also comments how he has never been someone who likes to “tie everything up in a bow and explain how everyone lived happily ever after.” Sherdian prefers looking into the next “window” (story idea) and seeing what can come from that.
How do you feel about the way 1883 ended? Did you enjoy the Yellowstone spin-off? Would you like to see another spin-off from the Paramount series? Fans can rewatch and stream all 10 episodes of 1883 on Paramount+ and Amazon Prime Video.
