NCIS introduced us to a new probie and we’re already excited for the possibilities. In fact, this new probie is none other than Kayla Vance, Leon Vance’s daughter. She has finished her training at FLETC and is ready to begin her first assignment. Find out what happened during Kayla’s first case on NCIS season 19 episode 14.

To start her off, Vance gives Torres their case assignment, which looks like a simple heart attack at first glance. Dr. Tom Masuda was in the middle of surgery when he collapsed, so they are sent in to investigate. It’s also Torres’s job to keep an eye on her, but she wants to prove herself as a capable agent.

Kayla does pretty well figuring out the main aspects of the investigation, but she is still green when it comes to holding back and being patient as they work the case. When she disobeys an order from Torres, her dad goes a little hard on her.

While in a way it’s understandable why Vance wants to protect her, Torres knows she needs to be able to be in the field in order to get experience. Of course, this does not go easy for them when the case gets more complicated than previously thought.

NCIS season 19 episode 14 finds a new probie, Kayla Vance, joining the team

It turns out that Masuda was actually poisoned and they figure out that the patient he was doing surgery on had been paid to kill him. But before they can question him, he ends up in cardiac arrest, and in the chaos at the hospital, Torres, Kayla, and Jessica rush to find their suspect. Unfortunately, Kayla is abducted.

This is where things get difficult for Vance, who may want to do all he can to find her, but knows he has to hold it together as the Director. When they discover the kidnapper is part of a drug cartel attempting to get his boss out of prison, Vance refuses Parker’s offer to make it happen. From what they find out, the boss had to have surgery, but Masuda had given a second opinion that went against this. Masuda was killed for denying the surgery.

With Kasie’s help, the team figures out where Kayla is being held. Even despite being held hostage, Kayla manages to use her observation skills to get some information about one of the men, who seems more agreeable.

The team is able to rescue her and they commend her on her negotiation skills when faced with the situation she was in. Vance also realizes that he needs to let his daughter spread her wings without keeping tabs on her at all times. It was great to see Vance figure out how to be there for her while also giving her the chance to be the agent she wants to be.

Even though Kayla may be with a different field office, we hope to see more of her! Just please keep her around, NCIS.
