If it wasn’t for Susie Myerson on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Midge would never have started her career. Susie really is the best in the series.

There are some excellent female characters on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Midge will stand out for most because she is the main character, but there are others who will capture hearts. We have to give an honorable mention to Rose, Midge’s mother. However, it’s Susie who stands out the most.

Susie is initially introduced as the manager at the Gaslight Café. She doesn’t like Joel, and she doesn’t like Midge because of him. However, all that changes on the night that Midge finds out that Joel is having an affair and leaving her.

We get a chance to see Susie realize her own dream. She wants to be a talent manager, and that’s the journey we’ve seen her on over the course of the last four seasons.

Why Susie is the ultimate character on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

The series is focused on Midge and her dream, but that doesn’t take away from the other characters in the series. In fact, the other characters all lend their support in their own sort of way, with Susie offering the most.

She manages to put her initial opinions of Midge to one side when she realizes the talent that Midge has. The two of them become an unlikely duo, friends through everything even when it looks like their own actions could end it all.

One thing with Susie is that she accepts Midge for who she is. At the same time, Susie doesn’t even try to fit in with the world of the 1950s. As a woman, she should be a housewife and wear dresses. Susie doesn’t conform, proud of who she is and what she wants out of life. Sure, she’d love to have more money (who wouldn’t!) but she doesn’t bother with the social pressure to fit in.

Not everyone knows what they want to achieve in life. That seems to be Susie up to the point she starts being Midge’s manager. She initially seems content being the manager at the Gaslight Café. That all changes when she sees her own talent in managing Midge.

Many of us have no idea what we want to be when we get older. We coast through life trying to figure it out, and Susie is certainly a great inspiration for many. There is a dream out there for us, and we just need to be willing to risk it all to follow it.

Susie is also hilarious. She figures out her ways to fit into places (the plunger was perfect!), and she does know how to push to get the answer she likes. However, there are insecurities there, and we get the chance to see her work through them. This is one character that has layer upon layer, making her extremely exciting to get to know better. Now we just need to see her succeed as a talent manager.
