Next week, Apple TV+ will be adding a new star-studded anthology series to its list of shows. All eight episodes of Roar will be available to stream starting April 15.

The series features eight stories about what it means to be a woman. The “darkly comedic feminist fables” look at gender roles, autonomy, and identity according to an Apple TV+ press release.

The synopsis of the show reads:

"Featuring a unique blend of magical realism, familiar domestic and professional scenarios, and futuristic worlds, these eight stories mirror the dilemmas of ordinary women in accessible yet surprising ways. How they emerge from their respective journeys speaks to the resiliency that exists within themselves, and with all women."

The series is based on a book of short stories by Cecelia Ahern. Carly Mensch and Liz Flahive serve as creators and co-showrunners of the adaption. Nicole Kidman is one of the series’ executive directors. We’ve got whose running the show, but who stars in it?

Roar cast: Who stars in the Apple TV+ series?

The new Apple TV+ series has some awesome female leads to round out its cast. Each of the stars will lead an episode. They are listed below in order of appearance:

  • Issa Rae
  • Nicole Kidman
  • Betty Gilpin
  • Alison Brie
  • Meera Syal
  • Merritt Wever
  • Cynthia Erivo
  • Fivel Stewart and Kara Hayward

The show also has exciting guest stars who will appear across the eight episodes including Nick Kroll, Judy Davis, Alfred Molina, Daniel Dae Kim, Jake Johnson, Jason Mantzoukas, Chris Lowell, Ego Nwodim, Griffin Matthews, Peter Facinelli, Simon Baker, Hugh Dancy, Jillian Bell, Bernard White, and Justin Kirk.

If you’ve watched the trailer, then you know Roar is going to be showing some pretty unconventional things. Kidman’s Kidman’s character eats photographs, Gilpin is a literal trophy wife, and Wever finds her perfect match with a duck. The approach is a little… weird. But I think it’s definitely worth a watch. What’s important to focus on is that the story is about each of these strong women, and how they overcome the challenges they face.

What do you think about the new show? Will you be watching when it drops? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
