What’s coming to The CW in April 2022? (new and returning shows)

What’s coming to The CW in April? Well, it seems we’re in for the debut of more non-scripted television and some documentaries you’ll definitely want to tune into. As for scripted television, be prepared for a preempted schedule.

Here’s how April is going to shake-up The CW’s line-up:

  • All American and All American: Homecoming return with new episodes on Monday, April 11
  • Superman and Lois and Naomi are on a three week hiatus. They’ll return on Tuesday, April 26.
  • The Flash and Kung Fu will be preempted on Wednesday, April 20. New episodes will begin airing on April 27.
  • Charmed and Dynasty will be preempted on Friday, April 22. New episodes will air on April 29.

The break in the release schedule has to due with filming as well as some shows being preempted for specials airing on the network this month including a documentary about Freddie Mercury and one on climate change. You can find the full list of what’s premiering in April below!

Would I Lie to You?

Saturday, April 9 (8:30 p.m. ET) – The U.S. version of Would I Lie to You makes its premiere with “Newman’s Piggyback Ride.” Hosted by Evil‘s Aasif Mandvi, the reality series pits team captains Matt Walsh and Sabrina Jalees against each other as their respective teams spin elaborate, hilarious tales that are either full of truths or lies.

Masters of Illusions

Saturday, April 9 (9:00 p.m. ET) – Season 8 of the magic show opens with “Matters of the Head.” The magicians featured are Ed Alonzo, Eric Buss, Clairvoyants, Rob Lake, Stuart MacDonald, and Shoot Ogawa.

Freddie Mercury: The Final Act

 Wednesday, April 20 (8:00 p.m. ET) – The U.S. premiere of Freddie Mercury: The Final Act is set for the 30th anniversary of the tribute concert thrown in the rock icon’s honor at Wembley Stadium. The documentary includes background on Mercury’s life as an artist, interviews from those closest to him as well as fellow musicians, extensive footage from the concert, and performances from the likes of Elton John, George Michael, David Bowie, Annie Lennox, and more.

Friday, April 22 (8:00 p.m. ET) – 2040 is a documentary that follows award-winning director Damon Gameau on his quest to find solutions to the planet’s climate crisis. His motivation is his four year old daughter. Gameau speaks to innovators and change makers across disciplines from agriculture to sustainability in order to help push for a healthier Earth for his child and the following generations who will inherit the planet.
