Get ready to flashback to a time before terror ran amuck in the streets of Derry!

There’s a project in development based on It by Stephen King. This time, however, instead of a movie, we’ll be getting a series tentatively named Welcome to Derry. The show could finally answer all of the questions we’ve been curious about since watching the It film series.

Since the movies are currently available to stream on HBO Max, it’s no surprise that the TV series is poised to stream on the platform. Of course, I’m sure we can all expect the same thrills and chills we saw during the two films. However, there’s much more time for plot development in a show versus the traditional runtime of a movie.

If you’re a fan of the film series and are excited about Welcome to Derry, then be sure to read ahead and find out everything we know about the show thus far.

Does Welcome to Derry have a release date?

Currently, the series is being developed so it’s unclear when the show will make its debut on HBO Max. However, it’s not likely to be in 2022.

Welcome to Derry plot details

At this point, not much is known about Welcome to Derry‘s plot outside of Variety’s report that the series will take place in the 1960s. It’ll follow the origin story of our favorite killer clown, Pennywise.

Have there been other It TV shows?

If the show doesn’t end up making it to the small screen, there is the 1990 miniseries to watch with Tim Curry portraying Pennywise.

Looking at the popularity of the Chucky  TV series, Welcome to Derry could be an excellent companion to the rebooted It films. Ultimately, the concept sounds amazing and the series seems like it will appeal to fans of the movies. Hopefully, HBO Max decides to move forward with it.
