If legal dramas are your thing, then you definitely should be watching The Good Fight. The Paramount+ series serves as a spin-off and standalone sequel to The Good Wife, which ended in 2016.

Picking up a year after the events of The Good Wife’s final episode, the series follows Diane Lockhart as she loses her employment after a big financial scam destroys the reputation of her goddaughter Maia and Diane’s savings. This leads them to joining Lucca Quinn at one of Chicago’s distinguished law firms.

Spin-offs don’t always work, but that’s not the case for The Good Fight. The story has kept the audience invested. And though it’s a standalone, there have been (and will be) some cameos from its predecessor.

We don’t have all the answers yet, but here’s all we know about The Good Fight season 6!

The Good Fight synopsis

The series was renewed for a sixth season in July 2021. Paramount+ shared the official synopsis for the upcoming season:

"The sixth season of The Good Fight has Diane feeling like she’s going crazy, struggling with an uneasy sense of déjà vu, with everything from Roe v. Wade to voting rights to Cold War aggressions returning. Meanwhile, the lawyers of Reddick & Associates wonder if the violence that they see all around them points to an impending civil war."

The Good Fight cast

Season 6 will see the main cast returning from season 5 returning:

  • Christine Baranski
  • Audra McDonald
  • Sarah Steele
  • Michael Boatman
  • Nyambi Nyambi
  • Zach Grenier
  • Charmaine Bingwa
  • Mandy Patinkin

It’s not clear yet which recurring cast members will be coming back. The new season will be bringing back some old, as well as new faces.

If you tuned into The Good Wife, then you’ll spot a couple of familiar faces in the sequel’s sixth season. Back in March, TVLine reported that fans will see the return of Eli Gold, played by actor Alan Cumming. Eli comes back to help his daughter Marissa navigate her new career as a lawyer.

The Good Wife alum, actress Carrie Preston will also be reprising her role for one episode as Elsbeth. She previously appeared on the spinoff for four episodes in seasons 1 and 2.

Brooklyn 99 fans will be happy to see André Braugher taking on the role of a new character. Ri’Chard Lane is described as a showman lawyer and rainmaker who is forced on Liz as a new partner. Ri’Chard is “a wild mix of brilliance, geniality, religion and joyful hedonism. In short, he’s a handful,” according to a Paramount+ press release.

Based on the synopsis, Diane is going to need all the help she can get in the new season. Enter Lyle Bettencourt, played by actor John Slattery. The Hollywood Reporter shared the new character is a “brilliant, sophisticated, and sensitive” physician who will help Diane navigate this uneasy time.
