Tim Burton movies: The 4 best (and worst) movies by Tim Burton
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005)
Alright everyone. Don’t hate me for adding this iconic movie under the “worst movies” category. Just hear me out. The issue with remakes is that you can’t help but compare them to the original movie. Though the original didn’t have as much technology since it was released in the ’70s, it managed to immerse you into the world of Willy Wonka much better. The 2005 version just felt very modern with no wonkiness visually. It was hard to feel like you were stepping into another world.

Dumbo (2019)
Unlike Alice in Wonderland, this live-action adaptation of the beloved animated movie just didn’t hit with audiences, including me. The film had a lot of potential due to the powerful story. I will say Burton still managed to give the movie visual appeal, but that wasn’t enough for you to feel completely invested in the story. Many of the live-action Disney films have done well, but Dumbo only got a 46% rating based on 369 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. And it’s not a surprising number to see.

Planet of the Apes (2001)
Planet of the Apes is the sixth film in the franchise and a remake of the 1968 movie of the same name. Remakes are hit or miss, and the 2001 version was definitely a miss. Planet of the Apes received mixed reviews for its confusing plot and its ending, and I have to agree. It was hard to follow and not an enjoyable film to watch overall.

Dark Shadows (2012)
Unlike most of Johnny Depp’s films, Dark Shadows can be skipped if you’ve never checked it out. The movie starts off pretty good, but then it just feels like it drags. With Burton’s reputation and his many collaborations with Depp as his lead character, you expect much more from Dark Shadows. The director knows how to mix darkness and comedy together into the right balance, but it just didn’t work here.
