Jodie Whittaker is set to bid her role as the Thirteenth Doctor goodbye this year. The title for her farewell episode, which is also being billed as a Centenary Special for BBC, has yet to be announced, but details about her final jaunt are pouring in.

We first met Whittaker’s Doctor in 2018. Over the course of Doctor Who‘s storied span, which encompasses nearly 59 years of television, there’s only been one woman to step into the role of the Doctor, the beloved Time Lord, and that’s Whittaker.

Her casting shook the internet. For some, it’d been a long time coming. For others, they were reserving judgement. And, of course, there were fans who hated the idea of the show’s lead being played by a woman. We’ve come a long way with representation, but there are still people staunchly against any kind of progress, unfortunately.

Now, whether the Thirteenth Doctor is your favorite or not, it’s inarguable that Whittaker’s run is historic and it’ll be sad for many to see her go. But, that’s how this series has thrived for so long. It bids farewell to its lead in order to introduce a new Doctor and new adventures. Whittaker’s time as the Time Lord is coming to an end, but this series is set to give her a proper goodbye.

Here’s more on the upcoming episode!
