Despite Bob’s Burgers focusing a lot on the Belcher family, friendships play a huge role in the series. Throughout the show’s 12-season run, there have been notable friendships broadcast on the small screen.

While most of the friendships are focused around the Belcher kids, Bob and Linda do have friends. We’ve met some of Bob and Linda’s friends, but one friend we have yet to meet is actually Ginger. Ginger has been a fixture since the beginning of the series and we have yet to meet Linda’s best friend.

Considering how much of a role we’ve watched Ginger play, it’s frankly a little annoying. She’s such a huge influence in Linda’s life so it’s only right we’ve finally seen her. While it’s unclear if we’ll actually meet her in the episode, “Clear and Present Ginger” makes it seem like we should.

Even if we don’t, be aware that there are spoilers from this point on. If you haven’t watched Bob’s Burgers episode, “Clear and Present Ginger,” you’ve been warned.

Here’s what you missed on Bob’s Burgers episode, “Clear and Present Ginger”

The episode starts with Linda making an excuse to Gayle since she’s going to hang out with Ginger and they’re having a sleepover. Linda keeps waiting for Ginger until she finds out that Ginger’s car broke down. Linda is immediately disappointed but decides to call Gayle and check on her.

Gayle decides to come over to Bob and Linda’s to keep her company and then Gretchen shows up so she invites Gretchen, too. Ginger calls back and explains that she’s going to be there in the next 45 minutes. Linda wants to try to get everyone to leave but those two want to try to have fun by prank-calling people.

Once Linda thinks they’re gone, Ginger calls back to check if Linda has everything ready for them but Gayle and Gretchen overhear. The two are obviously hurt by Linda saying Ginger is special and they leave after falling down the steps. Linda realizes that she needs to make it up to Gretchen and Gayle so she apologizes to them and explains that both of them are special to her no matter what. Finally, Ginger shows up but we don’t see her face.

Meanwhile, Nat comes into the restaurant to help the kids and Bob gets ready for her charity limo event. Nat decides to make Tina her “prom queen” and Tina immediately lets it go to her head. Nat explains that she’d like to win to impress her new “friend,” Peggy, and they all agree to help her.

The first challenge with Bob and Nat starts off great with Nat winning the first round. As for the second round, Nat has Gene and Louise while Tina is too worried about if Jimmy Junior is going to text her back. As for the final round, Tina’s worst nightmare comes true as the challenge is the prom queen gets stood up and Nat needs to come to pick her up to take her to the prom. Tina is so distraught that she ends up running out of the entire speedway into the bathroom.

Bob eventually talks Tina down and explains that she’s going to have fun at prom with or without a date, but it’s doubtful she won’t have a date since she’s fun. Despite Tina’s meltdown, Nat ends up winning the entire thing and the episode ends with Jimmy Junior calling Tina.

“Clear and Present Ginger” is exactly what to expect from Bob’s Burgers.

When thinking of Bob’s Burgers as a whole, there aren’t many secrets but the few secrets the show keeps are kept. One major mystery was about Ginger who is Linda’s best friend. While we’ve only heard of Linda talking to her on the phone, it was finally time for us to see her in person.

However as evidenced by the recap above, we never truly got that resolution. While it’s frustrating, it’s clear that the writers are going to make this a constant mystery. While Ginger is an actual character, we’ll never know much about her aside from what we learn from Linda. Yes, the episode title was misleading, but it shouldn’t come as a surprise.

Bob’s Burgers has done this multiple times in the past and even recently, did it when featuring an episode of Bob and his father. While we got to see Bob’s mother from behind, we didn’t get to see her face or hear her talk. It’s a little bit annoying as both Ginger and Bob’s mother are characters we want to know more about. However, maybe the movie will finally answer some of those questions.

Ultimately though, “Clear and Present Ginger” gave us that classic Bob’s Burgers moment. The show gave us enough to be excited about but not enough to show us anything. While it’s unclear if we’ll ever see Ginger, this tease was the right amount. Either way, this episode was a lot of fun and featured two solid storylines within the episode.
